How Meso Therapy Can Eliminate Cellulite
In both Southern America and throughout Europe, the non-surgical alternative to liposuction method called meso therapy or mesotherapy, has been a popular choice to achieve the same results that liposuction offers, but without the surgery nor the liposuction side effects.
This procedure involves the injections of specific medications and holistic compounds with the use of tiny needles, into the mesoderm (middle layer of skin), and it can treat a number of conditions.
Uses of Mesotherapy
Mesotherapy is minimally invasive and is a method that can target body contouring, fat removal and cellulite reduction.
When meso therapy is used to specifically target cellulite, the mesotherapy-trained surgeon will inject a solution of medications into the area. This solution contains medications that are designed to block the fat cells’ alpha-receptors that create the fat in the first place, whilst at the same time it will then stimulate the beta-receptors to break the fat down.
So, rather than suctioning out the fat cells, mesotherapy stimulates and encourages the body to naturally shrink or reduce the size of its fat cells.
This technique is far less invasive than and is a good natural alternative to liposuction as it unwanted fat cells flush out naturally. Precise body sculpting can be achieved with this method with very little tissue trauma.
This procedure is virtually painless as the needles used are tiny. It is possible that some patients can achieve the results they are after with just one session.
Before Mesotherapy
It is recommended that the patient about to undergo a meso therapy treatment, eats a meal high in protein, and that caffeine and other stimulants such as cigarettes are avoided.
Allergic reactions to the drugs used in mesotherapy are very rare, but your consultant will nevertheless, most likely carry out an allergy test approximately 24 hours prior to your mesotherapy treatment appointment.
Prior to the mesotherapy session, the surgeon will specifically draw out and examine the area to be treated. This is a crucial stage in the treatment and removal of cellulite, as cellulite is often only visible from certain angles and when the body is in particular positions.
How Mesotherapy is Performed and How it Works
The procedure for mesotherapy involves sessions of less than one hour each time, with a course of up to ten weekly sessions. Most surgeons prefer to space the treatments about a week apart in order to accurately gauge and see the improvements.
When mesotherapy is performed, because each session takes less than one hour, the patient is treated in an outpatient area of the clinic and doesn’t usually involve any anaesthetic.
Mesotherapy works by using minute injections of ‘fat-burning’ medications, directing them straight into areas of cellulite or pockets of fatty deposits.
Minute amounts of the drugs are used in each mesotherapy injection because they are able to reach the specifically targeted area directly. And because the injections are so small, any contra-indications or side effects of the medication are eliminated.
The area to be treated can be numbed with a local anaesthetic, but this is rarely used because such minute injections of medication are relatively pain free. Patients undergoing their initial treatment of mesotherapy are usually encouraged to do so without the use of an anaesthetic, as the minimal level of pain usually tolerable.
After the surgeon has cleansed and sterilized the area to be treated with alcohol, he will then use miniscule needles to deliver precise amounts of the mesotherapy drugs into the specific cellulite problem areas.
The drugs administered will produce immediate results, which are subsequently enhanced by any further treatments.
Many patients will see results within their first few mesotherapy sessions.
Mesotherapy Recovery Process
Recovery after meso therapy is fast. The process is so quick and relatively painless, that patients can resume their daily activities or routine immediately.
As a result of mesotherapy treatments, patients can sometimes lose more than 6” of fat with only ten treatments.
As previously mentioned, recovery is instant, although it is not uncommon for some minor bruising or even some swelling to occur.
Mesotherapy Results
Many patients will see almost instant mesotherapy results with dramatic changes in their appearance following just one treatment. But the majority should generally allow up to 3 – 4 sessions before they see excellent results from their mesotherapy treatments.
Most patients are delighted with their mesotherapy results, which can include spot fat reduction, the smoothing and firming of cellulite dimpled areas of skin and overall weight loss.
Mesotherapy Risks
To date, no documented deaths have been caused by mesotherapy and there are no serious risks of mesotherapy known in America. However in countries with less strict medical and surgical guidelines, mesotherapy has proved to have some serious risks.
Unbelievably, there was a time that mesotherapy was so desirable and popular, that non-medical professionals such as hair stylists were performing the treatment in non-clinical environments such as bathrooms and hair salons. It goes without saying that serious infections were rife as a result of the unsanitary conditions.
Stringent regulations and laws in both the US and the United Kingdom now prevent the chance of any such outcomes, and mesotherapy patients should only prepare themselves for minor mesotherapy side effects, if any at all. See mesotherapy side effects below.
Mesotherapy Side Effects
The side effects of mesotherapy are very few.
The majority of patients find the mesotherapy injection to be only slightly uncomfortable, whilst those with a particularly low pain threshold can request a topical or local anaesthetic just before their treatment.
Other patients have reportedly only felt a slight tingling or burning sensation after the mesotherapy injection as the drugs start to dissolve the fat. This is not the case with all patients and doesn’t last very long.
Some cases of numbness have been reported in association with mesotherapy, but this usually goes within a few days.
The most common mesotherapy side effect however, is bruising at the site of the injection. Some surgeons recommend the use of the supplement Arnica Montana that will help to reduce any mesotherapy bruising.
As patients will not be allowed a further mesotherapy treatment until all the bruising has cleared up, it is necessary that you should follow your doctor’s advice to reduce any bruising.
The doctor may suggest that you only wear clothing that is loose and that you avoid any strenuous exercises for 24 hours following the mesotherapy procedure to allow for any bruising to heal.
Another one of the more common mesotherapy side effects is very slight swelling.
This is only common at the site of the injection and is generally mild and will clear within a couple of days.
Mesotherapy Benefits
The benefits of mesotherapy can become more obvious when it is compared to liposuction, another body contouring technique, which involves the removal of fat.
Mesotherapy can be used to eliminate or reduce the appearance of cellulite, in addition to targeting specific areas of fatty tissue.
It can treat saggy skin, conditions such as stretch marks and acne, and it can also treat hair loss.
Mesotherapy can help to eliminate cellulite effectively, it can be used to treat any area of the body, and can deliver precise and exact treatment to the facial area, including the eyelids and neck.
It is highly effective when used to treat large areas such as the thighs, hips and buttocks.
It is a relatively painless treatment and some patients avoid anaesthesia completely. The only anaesthesia used is a local or topical anaesthetic so no complications associated to anaesthetic will occur.
Mesotherapy does not require any compression garments are bandaging, as healing and recovery is quick and straight-forward. The patient can return to work immediately as no hospitalization is required.
Mesotherapy side effects and risks are minimal – especially when compared to surgical procedures such as liposuction involving a general anaesthetic.
The success is easy to visualize – inches can be list in the treated area, and those previously affected with cellulite deposits will become firm and smooth.
Mesotherapy Prices
Learn more about mesotherapy prices and whether a financing option can help you attain the cellulite free areas you require, with mesotherapy treatment.
The cost of mesotherapy can vary depending on the size of the area you wish to have treated, the clinic and surgeon you choose and sometimes it depends on the locality of the clinic itself. Mesotherapy treatment usually costs in the region of $200 to $600 per session and consultants generally recommend that a patient have a course of ten sessions.
Liposuction prices are likely to exceed comparable treatment for a similar sized area.
It is possible to obtain financial assistance in order to spread the cost of mesotherapy treatment over an agreed period of time with monthly payments.
